Juicios políticos y muerte cruzada en Ecuador: ¿amenazas o mecanismos legítimos para la democracia? Una comparación con Colombia
El artículo examina los juicios políticos y la muerte cruzada en Ecuador, comparán dolos con los mecanismos de control político en Colombia. En Ecuador, los juicios políticos permiten a la Asamblea Nacional censurar y destituir a altos funcionarios, mientras que la muerte cruzada permite al presidente disolver la Asamblea y convocar elecciones anticipadas. En Colombia, los juicios políticos son posibles, pero más com plejos, y no existe un mecanismo similar a la muerte cruzada. Este análisis comparado explora las similitudes y diferencias entre ambos sistemas, así como los retos para su aplicación efectiva. Los hallazgos identifican áreas de mejora, como la necesidad de claridad normativa y la promoción de prácticas responsables en el manejo de crisis políticas; asimismo, se proponen recomendaciones para fortalecer la coherencia y eficacia en la protección de la democracia en ambos países.

Impeachment Proceedings and the “Cross Death” Mechanism in Ecuador: Threats or Legitimate Mechanisms for Democracy? A Comparison with Colombia
This study examines impeachment proceedings and “cross death” in Ecuador, compar ing them with the political control mechanisms in Colombia. In Ecuador, impeach ment proceedings allow the National Assembly to censure and remove high-ranking public officials, while the cross death mechanism allows the president to dissolve the Assembly and convene early elections. Although political trials are possible in Colom bia, they are more complex and there is no mechanism comparable with cross death. This comparative analysis explores the similarities and differences between both systems, as well as the challenges in their effective application. The findings identify areas for improvement, such as the need for normative clarity and for promotion of responsible practices in managing political crises, proposing recommendations to strengthen coherence and effectiveness in protecting democracy in both countries.

Amtsenthebungsverfahren und „gegenseitiger Tod“ (span. muerte cruzada) in Ecuador: Bedrohung der Demokratie oder legitimer Mechanismus? Ein Vergleich mit Kolumbien
Die Untersuchung befasst sich mit den Mechanismen des Amtsenthebungsver fahrens und des “gegenseitigen Todes” (span. muerte cruzada) in Ecuador und ver gleicht sie mit den politischen Kontrollmechanismen Kolumbiens. In Ecuador bietet das Amtsenthebungsverfahren der Nationalversammlung die Möglichkeit, hohen Amtsträgern das Misstrauen auszusprechen und sie abzusetzen, während die mu erte cruzada es dem Präsidenten erlaubt, die Nationalversammlung aufzulösen und vorgezogene Neuwahlen anzuberaumen. In Kolumbien sind Amtsenthebungsver fahren zwar möglich, aber komplexer, während kein vergleichbarer Mechanismus zur muerte cruzada besteht. Diese vergleichende Untersuchung befasst sich mit den Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschieden zwischen beiden Systemen sowie mit den Herausforderungen bei ihrer effektiven Anwendung. Als Ergebnis werden Bereiche mit Verbesserungsbedarf identifiziert, wie zum Beispiel die Notwendigkeit von klaren normativen Bestimmungen und die Förderung eines verantwortungsbewussten Vorgehens im Umgang mit politischen Krisen, ergänzt durch Empfehlungen für die Stärkung der Koheränz und Wirksamkeit des Demokratieschutzes in beiden Ländern.
